From patient to parent

Cyan ready for surgery.

There are things we as parents never wish our children to experience. For me it was any of the chronic illness’ I have. It was never wanting my daughter to experience a diagnostic lap surgery to discover the cause of pelvic pain and horrible periods.

Sadly that day came yesterday. My 17 year old daughter had her first lap surgery to diagnose her pelvic pain and period issues. She came through surgery okay but experienced complications with vomiting due to medications giving during surgery. Once she had that under control she did beautifully.

Answers? Well, we actually walked away from this with more questions, more tests needed and a better understanding on some level as to what has been hurting her.  The doctor used the words “Unique presentation” and “rare diseases”. He also explained the extent of the adhesions on her bowels. I am still in shock. I know it’s not much of an update, but it is all we have at the moment.

So what now? Well, we wait for pathology. That is about it. Pathology will hopefully lend a few more pieces to the puzzle. For now, she is home, she is recovering and she is doing well.
